What is ISSB?
How to Clear ISSB?
SSB is a process to select energetic, courageous & discipline candidates to serve the nation as an officer in Army, Navy and Air Force.
Those who are interested in Army, they go through Pakistan Military Academy Long Course (PMA L/C), which is announced twice in a year, a male candidate can give ISSB only twice until 24 years of his age. If he fails twice in ISSB, so, he can not serve in Army as a commissioned officer in his entire life. Each candidate has to go through 4 steps to get ISSB call letter. 1) Initial Test 2) Medical 3) Physical 4) Interview. After succeeding in these steps he goes to attend 5 days ISSB at Karachi / Gujranwala / Kohat.
Now I want to share my experience in ISSB with you. That how I performed there and how could it be better. 5 days ISSB includes Group Discussion, Speech, Command Task, Progressive Group Task, Half Group Task, Final Group Task, Military Planning, and Obstacles. If you are a repeater (means giving your ISSB 2nd time), then first you should realize that what went wrong in your 1st ISSB, because they do not mention your mistakes in your Not-Recommendation latter. And if you are a fresh candidate then,
Following these tips you can show your best what you got.
Take ISSB as tour rather than Task, it will make you very much confidant and you will not worry about little things which happened allot there. Like going to canteen, praying 5 times, watching Indian channels on T.V, using abusive language or smoking, taking notes with you, dress up whole day, e.t.c…
During tests your voice should be loud enough and firm too.
Give as many ideas & solution as possible.
Listen carefully all the instruction you are given and follow them accordingly.
Take initiative in Speech, Group Discussion, Obstacles, and Command Task.
First two days they make you understand that you have to be selected among 80 to 90 candidate (mean whole Badge), which is wrong thought. The truth is you have to be recommended among 8 to 12 Candidates (mean your Group).
Now I make you understand with comparison that why they take such tests and how you may tackle with them.
Speech = how you give presentation and make others understand
Group Discussion = how you perform if you are in table Conference.
Command Task = how much Commanding ability you got.
Obstacles = your physical stander.
Progressive Group Task = how you perform in Peace.
Final Group Task = how you perform in War.
Military Planning = how you make plan if you are stuck somewhere or you are in a state of war.
Interviews = your personality, quickness, verbal expression, consciousness & confidence.
Speech:- (2 minutes)
You will have 120 seconds to make your speech, first clear the topic then tell about it, then compare it with past, then present, and at last give its solution. Make eye contact with every one. Do not see floor, roof or GTO (Group Testing Officer) during speech.
Group Discussion:- (up to the GTO)
Understand topic and take initiative speak at least 2 or 3 times, do not let your GTO say “Speak up Chest Number x.y.z, it is your turn”.
Command Task:- (8 minutes)
In command task your voice should be like ordering not requesting. It is all about your I.Q and ability to complete it. Try not to take too many advises, if someone give avoid it straight forward. Use words which can motivate your group members. Remember completing command task is not important, command is important.
Obstacles:- (2 minutes)
It is all about your physical stander and I.Q, your activeness shows your physical and doing obstacles in sequence is your I.Q.
Progressive Group Task:- (40 minutes )
Take initiative and give ideas or solutions. Whatever you speak weather it is wrong or right speak loud because if you gossip in ears than your point can be turned over to others. Do not laugh if someone falls. Do not be quite keep motivating your group members.
Final Group Task:- (20 minutes)
It is the only task where you are ordered to speak in English. It is a bit chaos task because GTO interrupt too much in this task. Be cooperative, conscious and quick.
Military Planning:- (15 minutes)
Remember they have made a module which can be solved 95% not 100% because every one stops at one point where he can not solve further. Do not make too many fouls. Do not gossip in ear, speak loud. Concentrate on that structure which is invisible in module (according to GTO).
Interviews:- (up to the Psychologist or Deputy President)
Be positive, confidant, calm and cool, dress well. First think than answer. Make eye contact. Do not say sorry all the time use different words like “I am not sure” “I do not know”. Do not tell a lie, remember they are masters you can not trick them. Following these all tips INSHALLAH you will succeed.
After spending unforgettable 5 days at ISSB, those loins who are recommended are forward to Pakistan Military Academy Kakul /Abbotabad , PAF Academy Risalpur and Pakistan Naval Academy. Where they are trained 2 years to serve in Pakistan Armed Forces. And those who are declared Not-Recommended, do not be dishearten, because there is always a victory behind failure. At a time you can not see it but in future you will be able to see it, and you will be more pleased than you were depressed in your failure. Keeping in mind that Patience is virtue just wait for your turn and see what you got…..
