What is ISSB? How to Clear ISSB? How to get recommended Letter?

What is ISSB?

How to Clear ISSB?

SSB is a process to select energetic, courageous & discipline candidates to serve the nation as an officer in Army, Navy and Air Force.
Those who are interested in Army, they go through Pakistan Military Academy Long Course (PMA L/C), which is announced twice in a year, a male candidate can give ISSB only twice until 24 years of his age. If he fails twice in ISSB, so, he can not serve in Army as a commissioned officer in his entire life.
Each candidate has to go through 4 steps to get ISSB call letter. 1) Initial Test 2) Medical 3) Physical 4) Interview. After succeeding in these steps he goes to attend 5 days ISSB at Karachi / Gujranwala / Kohat.
Now I want to share my experience in ISSB with you. That how I performed there and how could it be better. 5 days ISSB includes Group Discussion, Speech, Command Task, Progressive Group Task, Half Group Task, Final Group Task, Military Planning, and Obstacles. If you are a repeater (means giving your ISSB 2nd time), then first you should realize that what went wrong in your 1st ISSB, because they do not mention your mistakes in your Not-Recommendation latter. And if you are a fresh candidate then,
Following these tips you can show your best what you got.
Take ISSB as tour rather than Task, it will make you very much confidant and you will not worry about little things which happened allot there. Like going to canteen, praying 5 times, watching Indian channels on T.V, using abusive language or smoking, taking notes with you, dress up whole day, e.t.c…
During tests your voice should be loud enough and firm too.
Give as many ideas & solution as possible.
Listen carefully all the instruction you are given and follow them accordingly.
Take initiative in Speech, Group Discussion, Obstacles, and Command Task.
First two days they make you understand that you have to be selected among 80 to 90 candidate (mean whole Badge), which is wrong thought. The truth is you have to be recommended among 8 to 12 Candidates (mean your Group).
Now I make you understand with comparison that why they take such tests and how you may tackle with them.
Speech = how you give presentation and make others understand
Group Discussion = how you perform if you are in table Conference.
Command Task = how much Commanding ability you got.
Obstacles = your physical stander.
Progressive Group Task = how you perform in Peace.
Final Group Task = how you perform in War.
Military Planning = how you make plan if you are stuck somewhere or you are in a state of war.
Interviews = your personality, quickness, verbal expression, consciousness & confidence.
Speech:- (2 minutes)
You will have 120 seconds to make your speech, first clear the topic then tell about it, then compare it with past, then present, and at last give its solution. Make eye contact with every one. Do not see floor, roof or GTO (Group Testing Officer) during speech.
Group Discussion:- (up to the GTO)
Understand topic and take initiative speak at least 2 or 3 times, do not let your GTO say “Speak up Chest Number x.y.z, it is your turn”.
Command Task:- (8 minutes)
In command task your voice should be like ordering not requesting. It is all about your I.Q and ability to complete it. Try not to take too many advises, if someone give avoid it straight forward. Use words which can motivate your group members. Remember completing command task is not important, command is important.
Obstacles:- (2 minutes)
It is all about your physical stander and I.Q, your activeness shows your physical and doing obstacles in sequence is your I.Q.
Progressive Group Task:- (40 minutes )
Take initiative and give ideas or solutions. Whatever you speak weather it is wrong or right speak loud because if you gossip in ears than your point can be turned over to others. Do not laugh if someone falls. Do not be quite keep motivating your group members.
Final Group Task:- (20 minutes)
It is the only task where you are ordered to speak in English. It is a bit chaos task because GTO interrupt too much in this task. Be cooperative, conscious and quick.
Military Planning:- (15 minutes)
Remember they have made a module which can be solved 95% not 100% because every one stops at one point where he can not solve further. Do not make too many fouls. Do not gossip in ear, speak loud. Concentrate on that structure which is invisible in module (according to GTO).
Interviews:- (up to the Psychologist or Deputy President)
Be positive, confidant, calm and cool, dress well. First think than answer. Make eye contact. Do not say sorry all the time use different words like “I am not sure” “I do not know”. Do not tell a lie, remember they are masters you can not trick them. Following these all tips INSHALLAH you will succeed.
After spending unforgettable 5 days at ISSB, those loins who are recommended are forward to Pakistan Military Academy Kakul /Abbotabad , PAF Academy Risalpur and Pakistan Naval Academy. Where they are trained 2 years to serve in Pakistan Armed Forces. And those who are declared Not-Recommended, do not be dishearten, because there is always a victory behind failure. At a time you can not see it but in future you will be able to see it, and you will be more pleased than you were depressed in your failure. Keeping in mind that Patience is virtue just wait for your turn and see what you got…..

On 27th of May 1999 Pakistan shot down two Indian jets.

On 27th of May 1999 Pakistan shot down two Indian jets.

On 27th of May 1999 Pakistan shot down two Indian jets.
A mig-21 flown by Squadron leader Ajay Ahuja.
A Mig-27 flown by Flight lieutenant Nachikata.
Ajay Ahuja got killed and Nachikata was captured.
The dead body of Ahuja was returned to India and so was the POW Nachikata.
The interesting part is that both planes were shot down by Pakistani ground troops using shoulder mounted Anza missiles.
India being India took many years to accept that two of their jets were shot down by Pakistan even without the involvement of PAF.
They were so hell bent on hiding the loos of two jets by the hands of Pakistani ground troops that the Dead body of the Deceased pilot wasn't shown to his relatives and disposed as per Hindu traditions in a hurry.
The POW was never allowed to fly a fighter jet again and was suspended from flying for six years. When he was allowed back to fly, he flew transport planes.
His crime was to praise Pakistan for humane treatment.
History is repeating itself.
Once again after 20 years Pakistan shot down two Indian jets.
Same as 1999 the date was 27th but a different month.
Same as 1999 one pilot was taken POW and another dead.
Same as 1999 India is denying two losses and accepting one as out of options. The pilot of the Indian jet himself was the proof as POW.
Same as 1999 India is not accepting the shooting down of second plane.
Same As 1999 the returned POW will be disgraced and won't be allowed to fly for a long time and his career as a fighter pilot will end.
Same as 1999 his crime will be to praise Pakistan for humane treatment.
But unlike 1999 we may still have their second pilot and awaiting India to own up the loss of their second jet.

Pakistan Air force's most advanced fighter jets are the F-16c block 52.

Pakistan Air force's most advanced fighter jets are the F-16c block 52.

Pakistan Air force's most advanced fighter jets are the F-16c block 52.
This version of F-16 is also relatively expensive to operate.
At full after burner the jet consumes 11 litres of fuel per second. Operating costs are 8-10 thousand dollars per hour all including.
Pakistan has only 19 of these units and as a matter of policy only uses these very rarely and when absolutely necessary.
The workhorse of PAF F-16 fleet are the older F16 A&B units which have been with PAF since 1983 and PAF is one of the oldest continues user of F-16 outside the USA.
The A&B Versions may be old but pilots and technicians have decades of experience with the jets and know the jet inside out.
Old does not necessarily means bad and these older versions only cost 4-6 thousand dollars per hour all including.
PAF operates about 140 units of older F-16 A&B.
On comparison Indian Air force's most modern jets are their SU-30 MKI. India has about 187 units of the jet operational since 2002. The desired number is 222 units eventually.
Being a large twin engine jet the operating costs are very high at 23000 USD per hour. The upcoming Rafale for IAF will have even higher operating costs at 28000 USD per hour.
The contact with Russia about spares was not very well done and many critical parts take too much time to arrive. Likewise the transfer of technology about assembly and manufacturing certain parts in India also has problems. Because there are businesses involved in the process and money has to be made. Likewise being a large jet, the aircraft needs lots of man hours for maintenance and turnaround time is not too quick.
As a result at any given time less than half of the SU-30 MKI feet is operational. The rest are in the workshop.
On the decision making front the indian so called democracy poses a big problem for the IAF. Most of the decisions of procurement and purchase are made by civilians who have little to no understanding of IAF requirements and have other preferences such as political gains and benefiting influential families such as Ambanis and Mittals.
Often the decisions made, make businesses and political sense but are of no benefit to IAF and even damaging.
On the other hand PAF does not face such problems. Although the money flows through civilian administration hands as they are in charge of finances. The operational, maintenance, and purchasing, procurement decisions are made by PAF themselves.
Hence the decisions made were very good.
PAF stuck to smaller single engine jets instead of going for twin engine large jets.
As a result all PAF fleet needs much shorter time and resources for maintenance and turnaround and percentage availability of operational fighter jets is much higher than IAF.
Weapon integration and procurement in PAF case also has been very well thought after and cost effective.
Only those weapons were bought or locally manufactured which were compatible with large part of PAF fleet. As a result most of the weapons used by PAF can be carried by multiple platforms in use with PAF.
IAF has been purchasing weapons not compatible with any of their jets.
They made contract for buying 200 brahmos cruise missiles at about 3 million USD a piece. The 600 million dollar contract has only one problem. No Indian jet can carry the missile as its too heavy. To be able to carry Brahmos the IAF had to make another contract to modify their largest jets the SU-30 MKI.
About 25 jets will be strengthened to carry the 2.5 ton missile. The jets will have additional metal frames welded to the structure and with the expansive and permanent modifications, still it will only carry one Brahmos.
However since the modifications will add weight to the jet, the jet will permanently lose certain amount of range and will change maneuvering characteristics permanently.
No such problem with PAF. The entire fleet of PAF mirages and F-16 can carry Raad cruise missiles without modifications as the missile was built to comply with existing fleet capacity.
Then the problem of weapons integration. Except the PAF F-16 fleet , all the rest of the fleet's Firmware can be modifiede In-house by PAF to integrate new weapon systems.
IAF has to ask the Russians to have the Firmaware modified so that new weapon system can be Modified, which costs both time and money.
